SNAPSHOTS

Norwegian Wood Festival, Oslo 14. June 03
After a few e-mails with one of the guys at Norwegian Wood Festival, I was granted not only tickets for two of the days, but also a photopass. And what a treat! This meant I could get all the way into the pit :)
I had first asked for Friday and Sunday, cuz Linkin Park were supposed to play Friday. When both they and The Sounds cancelled, I changed my wish to Saturday. There were 3 bands esp. that I wanted to see on Sat. And that was Jim Stärk, The Ricochets and Norwegian rock legends DumDumBoys. The weather was perfect for music, beers and photography.
I was a bit late to get any photos of Jim Stärk (you're only allowed to take photos during the 3 first songs), but I got to hear most of the concert at least. This is very, very beautiful music. Sometimes I even get a Pearl Jam-ish vibe from music. They have also had their share of Nick Drake comparisons.
Next band was the Ricochets.
I've heard lots about them, but never actually seen them live before. And it was a nice surprise when I first did.
Elegant, dark and energetic. Vocalist Trond Andreassen is rocking and shaking it.
Last year's Norwegian Wood included the bachelorparty for Erik, and this year was no exception either. I just sat down, and there I was - in the middle of a bacheloretteparty. And this was the bride to be. Very nice bunch of girls, and I do hope her wedding went well.
The crowd had been sitting relatively still through the first concerts, but when it was close to the grand entrance of DumDumBoys people began to stir.
DumDumBoys have been making great rock - in Norwegian - since the late 80's and they've been one of the #1 party music for my generation when we were youngsters.
And they were very well aware that they had lots of old (in more than one way) fans in the crowd. The first thing they said to all their fans was: "Ahh..look how big you've all grown"
Eventhough the band hasn't been playing live for several years there was nothing rusty about their performance. Singer Prepple Houmb is every bit as charming and heartily engaged in the music as they were back in the 90's. And the songs remain the same.
Hits like "Splitter Pine", "Slave", "Tusen etasjer høy" and "Metallic hvit" had the crowd go wild in one big sing-along-party. The singer and drumplayer changed places and additional guitarplayers entered the stage at the end of the concert. The concert was even allowed to go on past closing time.
One thing is for sure. Both the audience and the band left the festivalgrounds with big happy grins on their faces. A really good concert in all ways possible. Thanks for returning to your fans DumDumBoys. We've missed you!
